Sephora by OPI IM Beauty Nail Colour

Awhile back I was browsing through Sephora's sale bins and I picked up the Sephora by OPI nail polish in IM Beauty. I had been wanting a yellow nail polish since last summer and I decided that I couldn't pass up on this one, especially since it was on sale:

This was my first Sephora by OPI nail colour. And my last.

natural light

I should first state that I am no-nonsense when it comes to painting my nails. I rarely ever paint my nails, and when I do, I can only tolerate drying time for 2 coats. If I have to apply more than that, its over. That being said, look how streaky this polish applied! The photos above were taken after 2 coats and the polish is so uneven! Not to mention the color looks so dull in natural light. I immediately removed this polish and vowed to only purchase the original OPI polishes from here on out.

Have you found any good, inexpensive yellow polishes? Have you tried Sephora by OPI?

  1. you should definitely return that one for another shade. all of the shades aren't like that. that is very disappointing though.

  2. I had the same exact problem with this shade, and ended up returning it. I like every single one of the other SOPI polishes that I tried though :)

  3. @yummy411 Yes, I will return it. Which shades do you like that aren't streaky?

@Olga Hmm, I guess this yellow was just the bad one of the bunch. Any shade recommendations?

  4. that sucks that it didn't come out that great :( i actually really like sally girl polishes at sally's beauty supply. sinful colors also makes some pretty good ones, but it's hit or miss in that brand =/

  5. Hi Kajal,

Please don't blame Sephora by OPI, it's truly the color. Yellows, pastels and whites are notoriously known for being streaky and needing patience; if you were expecting an easy application, Scrangie, All Lacquered Up, The Nailphile, and Vampy Varnish can all attest that yellows (especially pastel yellows) are anything but.

I think the only brand that has managed to master the two coater, no streaks pastel and yellow nail varnish is Illamasqua. Their formula is excellent (um, I own four of their every last one of them to bits and pieces.) It's incredibly hard!

Not every color nail varnish is created equally. Some are incredibly hard to get that perfect two coat opacity and no streaks. If you're curious about a color, I'd look it up at Scrangie, All Lacquered Up, The Nailphile and/or Vampy Varnish and see what they say about the formula before you purchase it. I like to reach a general consensus by reading all their reactions to the color (if they review it) before I go out and buy it. I also read some other nail blogs too! It's truly not the brand! If you're like me and collect and read about polish, it can be a collection formula thing (sometimes the company tries to improve the formula and it doesn't quite work out), it can be because of the color, the brand may just have been bought by a new company and they're tweaking the formula, and sometimes it is the brand (i.e. Essie is well known for having a watery-like formula.) The polish world is just as active as the makeup world!

  6. My favorite yellow is China Glaze Lemon Fizz, but I also have to apply 3 coats to ensure everything is even...

  7. I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my very first comment. Nice blog.

  8. i have tried one kind of nail wraps recently, it is very good, easily apply and look fantastic. it is the right products for holiday!

  9. the yellow is not very good,it seems a little light
